Job Title: Research Assistant

SUMMARY

The goal of our laboratory is to investigate how to improve sleep in Veterans with traumatic brain injury and/or post-traumatic stress disorder. We recruit human subjects for participation in studies exploring applied physiological concepts and clinical trial focused interventional analyses. We seek highly motivated, driven, skilled, analytical, and creative individuals who can efficiently work independently and collaboratively in a team based environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability and willingness to work with multiple members of the laboratory and assist where needed with data entry and data analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects, while assisting with smaller tasks as needed.
  • Attention to detail and punctuality.
  • Ability to stay highly organized with electronic management of large datasets.
  • Utilize teaching/leadership skills in order to help train rotating students and other volunteers.

JOB DUTIES

  • Subject recruitment.
  • Data collection, entry, analysis and interpretation.
  • maintenance of REDCap database of human subjects.
  • Perform complex data analysis of large datasets using specialty software such as GraphPad Prism or R.
  • Learn how to present data, make figures/posters, write abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Train other personnel in the above techniques as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts degree with 1-3+ years' experience in clinical research coordination

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • English speaking

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • High school to entry level college math recommended (i.e., algebra to calculus)
  • Basic level statistical knowledge (t-tests, ANOVAs, multiple linear regression, etc.)

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, REDCap
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Proficiency in statistical programs such as GraphPad Prism, SPSS, SAS or R
  • Proficiency or ability to learn programming basic languages such as dokuwiki, R, or python
