Title: Research Assistant/Coordinator
Grade: Research Assistant 1
Expected Salary: $50,000/year + Benefits
FTE: 1.0

Position Description
• This position is located in the Research and Development Service of the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Employment will be through the Portland VA Research Foundation. This position will entail coordinating and managing multiple elements of human subjects' research amongst Veteran patients. This position is for a research study investigating medications to reduce alcohol consumption in veterans with Hepatitis C.

Primary Responsibilities
• Recruit patients from diverse backgrounds for multiple research studies
• Review medical records
• Coordinate and schedule multiple patient visits
• Conduct informed consent and administer surveys to patients
• Collect data through patient visits
• Coordinate with other research assistants in other sites
• Maintain organized and accurate study records
• Develop and maintain electronic databases
• Manage administrative requirements such as those involving the IRB and other VA entities
• Manage project schedules and activities of principal investigators
• Attend research coordinator educational opportunities at the Portland VA and OHSU
• Other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Job Requirements
• Master's degree in public health or discipline
• Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Basic proficiency with: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Access, and reference management software (e.g. EndNote)
• Knowledge and experience in working with Hepatitis C and/or HIV
• Experience assisting in grant writing
• Familiar with principles and methods in biostatistics
• Effectively coordinate multiple administrative tasks
• Transcribe and input written and recorded data into an electronic database
• Preferred: knowledge of research methods and rules of patient confidentiality; knowledge of Human Research Protection Policies (HRPP) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) policies; previous experience with quantitative research methodologies
